When it comes to being deserving of a job title, Duke McCaffrey Consulting’s new director of global business development for the data centre sector has certainly put in the hard miles.

Born in Iran, educated in England and having exercised his expertise in engineering, sales and workforce management across continents, Saeed Fahim is a man well-travelled and boasts a skillset in international demand. However, while the jet-setter revels in broadening the business horizons of multinational operations overseas and has lived in more countries than most people have houses, his latest professional port of call is testament to the adage that ‘home is where the heart is’.

“I have spent many years working in the Middle East and Asia, most recently with ABB [a leading global technology company] but opted to return to Ireland when Covid hit and have remained there since.”

Saeed’s decision to join the Duke McCaffrey team was not, however, driven solely by geographical convenience. Citing his employer’s experience of working with leading suppliers of data hosting services and diverse client base of hyper-scalers and co-location providers as part of the appeal of the appointment, he added: “I would not have signed-up if I didn’t think that I could add value or doubted the quality of the people I would be working with.

“The data centre world is an industry I know well, and the market is full of people who talk a good game but do not or cannot deliver on their promises. I need to feel confident in the competence of my colleagues and the team at Duke McCaffrey have high professional standards.” Nor does the latest stop of a global tour spanning more than three decades mean that the high-flying executive will be surrendering his passport any time soon.

Saeed is targeting new business in the Middle East and is looking forward to pairing his local knowledge with Duke McCaffrey’s pedigree for data centre design, construction and re-design. “The company’s expertise will be valued by overseas markets and I have the cultural awareness of how business is done in that part of the world,” he concluded. “When it comes to construction in places like Dubai there can be untouched, sandy areas that nobody takes responsibility for, and our expertise is in ensuring that no element of a project is left behind and that every last job is accounted for.”
